Full Book Description

The first half of life is often about building. Roles. Careers. Identities. Then something nudges us to ask better questions. SHIFT – 7 Mindsets for an Inspired Midlife is a field guide for that moment.Peter Reek blends research in positive psychology with practical tools and honest stories to map seven mindsets that change how we see and how we live. Readers learn to lead themselves well, tell themselves the truth, practice radical acceptance, and move with more alignment.

This is not a book about reinvention for its own sake. It is about living with intention. It is about the courage to shift.

About the Author (short version)

Peter Reek is an entrepreneur, leadership coach, and founder of InHabit.Life. After three decades building companies and guiding leaders, he sold his firm and returned to graduate school to study what helps people thrive in midlife. His master’s work in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching informs SHIFT, his keynotes, and his coaching circles. Peter lives in Vancouver, Canada, where he hosts retreats, walks the coast, and continues to learn alongside the people he serves.

About the Author (longer version)

Peter Reek spent the first half of his career growing companies, leading teams, and helping people rise. He founded consultancies, supported global brands, and guided mergers and acquisitions across North America and beyond. The work was meaningful, yet a deeper question emerged. What does it look like to flourish in the second half of life.

Selling his business became a turning point. Peter returned to university to pursue a master’s in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching, focusing on midlife transitions. What he discovered now shapes his work. Midlife is not the end of something. It is the edge of something beautiful.

Peter is the founder of InHabit.Life, an ecosystem dedicated to helping people navigate the shifts of midlife through coaching, cohort experiences, retreats, and when helpful, therapy partnerships. His book, SHIFT – 7 Mindsets for an Inspired Midlife, distills research, tools, and lived experience into a guide for people who want to move from autopilot to intention.

He lives in Vancouver, Canada. He spends time with his three daughters, leads transformational gatherings, and continues to ask better questions about what matters now.

Endorsements

“A book that treats midlife not as a decline, but as the bold adventure it should be. Peter Reek’s seven shifts will change how you see aging and yourself.”
MICHAEL BUNGAY STANIER, bestselling author of The Coaching Habit and How to Work with (Almost) Anyone

“Shift is a terrific book! I didn’t read it so much as sink into it. I feel changed by the experience. Midlife now comes with a manual. Shift is thoughtful, hopeful, and refreshingly practical about what it takes to grow through change.”
PETER BREGMAN, bestselling author of 18 Minutes and Leading with Emotional Courage

“Midlife isn’t a crisis—it’s a catalyst. In Shift, Peter Reek invites readers to reimagine this pivotal life stage as a time of reinvention, purpose, and profound personal growth. I believe it shines a vital light on how the physical, emotional, and hormonal changes of this life phase—especially for women—reshape our relationships, identities, and ambitions. It creates a path to living inspired in the second half of life.”
DR. JESSICA SHEPHERD, board-certified gynecologist and menopause expert, author of Generation M

“What is time, anyway? Peter Reek understands this: that time is just time, and how old you are, what stage you’re at in the game, or how many years you have left are just a number in your head—real, but not that big of a deal, because at any point, you can begin again. You can cook it up all over again, you can step into the unknown with joy and, no matter how much you’re trembling, with the assurance that you’re going to be fine.”
ROB BELL, New York Times–bestselling author of fourteen books including Love Wins
